Your little one has arrived and it's time to capture their newborn photos! What an exciting day (also can be stressful)! Besides leaving the hospital and maybe going to the doctors, this might be their first adventure.
Here are some helpful tips to make the day go smoother.
- Start getting ready earlier than you think. It takes a lot of effort to get everyone out of the house and to their destination on time after having a baby.
- Put baby in something easy to undress. Most newborn photographers will have lots of different outfits and wraps for you to choose from.
- Try and keep your regular routine. For my studio you can either feed right before you leave, or you can arrive early to the session to feed in studio. If you wish to feed prior to the session, please let your photographer know to plan accordingly (some do not allow this).
- Bring a change of clothes for parents and siblings. Accidents happen and we want to make sure you have extra clothes. You can also bring the clothes you want to be photographed in instead of wearing them. Then when it's time for parent/sibling photos you can change.
- Neutral colors or solid patterns always look the best when photographed. You don't want lots of patterns distracting from the star of the show. Creams, beige, gray, light pink, light blue, dark blue all photograph well. Mom can bring her maternity gown if she has one for a few.
- If siblings are to come, it's best if they come in just for the family and sibling portion and then have a grandparent, sitter or partner take them home. This minimizes distractions and allows the photographer to focus on your new baby.
- Newborns tend to eat more when they are stimulated. If you are pumping bring your pump so you can stick to your schedule and have fresh breast milk if needed. If you are bottle feeding bring a few extra bottles.
- Moms- bring extra pads, your peri-bottle (for vaginal delivery), ibuprofen or pain medications if needed and something easy to breastfeed in.
- If you have a pacifier at home please bring it, this will help settle newborn when we are doing certain poses.
- Baby Bliss Studio, LLC has extra newborn diapers, snacks, water, coffee machine and a few toys for siblings. Feel free to bring any additional snacks. A full newborn session can take 2-4 hours.
Note: Most newborn studios are kept warmer. This is because infants don't have the ability to thermoregulate. If an infant gets too cold, they can drop their glucose level and have other issues.
Check with your photographer about special requirements they have for their studio.
